Some like to hold the engagement party near the wedding date so all guests can attend, however it is usually held a few months prior to the wedding. Traditionally the bride’s parents host and pay for the engagement party, but today it is fairly common for the grooms family to also contribute to the event. Usually the only formality during the party is when the father of the bride makes a toast to the couple and the groom responds.

Your engagement can, of course, be celebrated in a variety of ways, with many couples choosing to host the party themselves. Whether you decide on a small and casual gathering at a local restaurant, bar or pub, or a large and formal party, remember not to go to crazy and keep within your budget as the wedding will be a costly affair. Many bars and restaurants offer complimentary nibbles depending on the tab you purchase at the bar. It's a good idea to look around and ask questions as many establishments will adapt their function menu according to your budget.

If you have lots of children attending a BBQ at the park is a great idea to keep the whole family entertained and happy. Consider hiring entertainers or babysitters to ensure everyoone has a great time and the children are safe. Finally remember it is the celebration of your love and decision to spend the rest of your lives together so remember to have fun and enjoy yourselves.
