Headpiece
If you want to complete your outfit with the traditional veil, you will be sure to find various suitable designs. Veils are available in an extraordinary variety of shapes, sizes and fabrics. They look lovely trimmed with pearls and or crystals. Floral headpieces or single flowers are popular with brides having ‘garden’ weddings, and older or second-time brides often wear classical hats. Before you buy, talk to your hairdresser and your wedding gown professional. Your hair and headpiece should be co-ordinated into the total look, and the headpiece should suit the style of your wedding gown.

Lingerie
While there is little doubt your wedding gown will be pleasing to all who see it, your undergarments, although hopefully not seen by your guests, are likely to contribute to your total look and affect the way you feel. It is wise to take your lingerie with you when buying your gown. You should not be able to notice your underwear through your gown and it needs to fit properly, be comfortable and practical when using the bathroom. Most lingerie departments or specialist stores now provide for a wide variety of dress styles and body shapes. When selecting your stockings choose a strong denier. Buy more than one pair and have the spares handy on the day. Accidents do happen. This also applies for bridesmaids.

Shoes
Wedding shoes are a very personal choice but make sure they are comfortable and fit properly. Try them on both feet and walk around in them. Quality shoes that fit correctly with good support will stand you in good stead after you have been on your feet for much of the ceremony, the photographs, the reception and, of course, the dance floor. Slip in some ‘Party Feet’ or ‘Petals’ (available from chemists and shoe stores) to stop sandals sliding and give some extra padding to the balls of your feet. The type of wedding and time of the year you are getting married should determine your heel. A stiletto is not ideally suited to a garden wedding and probably a strappy sandal is best suited to a summer wedding.

Many designers specifically cater for brides, but most regular shoe chains also stock appropriate styles. When shopping for your wedding shoes, ensure the style and colour matches your wedding gown or your jewellery accessories and the most practical way to do this is to take a swatch of your wedding gown material and your accessories with you. If your feet are an odd size and your style choices are limited, don’t despair. Shoes can be covered with matching fabric from your dress or decorated with diamantes and glittering shoe clips to become perfect wedding shoes. Whether your shoes are leather or material, ensure you remember to spray them with a good weather protectant to prevent staining and marking. It’s also a good idea to walk around in the shoes before the wedding to break them in.
